KeyPilot – WordPress License Manager & Software Update System is a next-generation licensing platform for WordPress-based digital product stores. It lets you generate secure license keys automatically on every purchase, track activations per domain, deliver software updates to your customers, and verify Envato purchase codes — all from your own WordPress site.

Key Features

License Key Generation

• Automatically generates one unique license key per quantity on every completed order
• Works with both WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads
• Enable licensing per product or globally for all products at once
• Set per-product activation device limits (e.g. 1, 3, or unlimited)
• Keys are stored securely in a dedicated database table

  Activation Tracking

  • Track which domains and devices have activated each license

  • View all active, expired, and revoked licenses from the admin dashboard
  • Manually edit activation limits or revoke any license at any time
  • Deactivation endpoint frees up a slot so the customer can reuse their key on another site

    Software Auto-Updates

    • Built-in software update server for plugins and themes
    • Set current version number, update package ZIP URL, and changelog per product
    • Customers see update notifications directly inside WordPress admin
    • Update check endpoint returns version, download link, and HTML changelog
    • Supports manual and automatic update flows in your plugin or theme

      REST API

      • Full public REST API at /wp-json/keypilot/v1/
      • POST /activate — Activate a license key for a domain
      • POST /check — Validate an existing activation
      • POST /deactivate — Remove an activation and free the slot
      • GET /update — Check for available software updates
      • All endpoints return JSON; errors return HTTP 4xx with descriptive messages
      • Authentication via license_key parameter (no separate API token needed for customers)

        License Certificates

        • Each license key comes with a branded certificate page
        • Certificate link is included in order receipts and customer emails
        • Certificate URL format: ?keypilot_cert=1&key=LICENSE_KEY
        • Customize certificate logo and text from KeyPilot → Settings

          Customer-Facing Delivery

          • WooCommerce: Keys shown on Thank You page, My Account → View Order, and order confirmation emails (HTML + plain text)
          • EDD: Keys shown on Purchase Receipt and payment confirmation
          • Each key includes a View Certificate link
          • Customize welcome email subject and body from KeyPilot → Emails

            Envato / CodeCanyon Integration

            • Accept Envato purchase codes (UUID format) as valid license keys
            • KeyPilot verifies purchase codes with the Envato API on first activation
            • Creates a managed license from the Envato sale — activation limits and updates work identically
            • Set Envato Item ID on your WooCommerce/EDD product to link the sale to the correct product settings
            • Customers who bought on Envato and customers who bought on your store both use the same /activate and /check endpoints — no separate flow needed
            • Supports CodeCanyon, ThemeForest, and other Envato marketplaces

              Smart Revocation

              • Licenses are automatically revoked when a WooCommerce order is set to Refunded or Cancelled
              • EDD licenses are revoked when payment status changes to refunded, revoked, or failed
              • Revocation is handled by the license keys stored in order/payment meta — no order_id dependency
              • Manually revoke any license from KeyPilot → Licenses at any time

                Webhooks

                • Configure a webhook URL in KeyPilot → Settings
                • Receive real-time POST notifications for events such as license.created
                • Useful for syncing with external CRMs, Slack alerts, or custom workflows

                  Admin Dashboard

                  • Dashboard — Overview totals: licenses issued, active activations, API request count
                  • Licenses — Full list with search, filter by status, edit limits, revoke
                  • Activations — See which domains are activated per license key
                  • Settings — Certificate branding, Envato token, webhook URL, global auto-enable toggle
                  • Emails — Edit welcome email, piracy alert, and expiration reminder templates
